The first commercial coin sorter available to the public in Calgary can be found at the Canadian Tire in the Beacon Hill shopping center.
I had about 35 pounds of change to take in and after fighting with the piggy bank, and mind boggling 12.9% service fee off the top, this is what I got for my troubles.
Well, some of that is Lori’s as well.
I also have another 300 or so in rolled coins to take in to the bank.
It was accumulating for… 15 years? A while, anyways.

12.9 ! Outrageous. Where’s competition when you need it

What a great idea though. I’ve often though that banks should have that at their in-branch atm’s.

I would love having the option of bringing in a sack of coins into the bank and having the machine do the grunt work of sorting and rolling for me.
The banks are losing out on another way of charging me a service fee here…

The Skytrain vending machines out here help a little bit, although they’re not meant to. You can tell it to sell you a ticket, and then feed it all nickels and dimes, and then hit cancel. You’ll get the money back in quarters.
